Over 400 labourers, mainly Indians, stopped rush-hour traffic on Dubai’s main highway during a protest over wages. The construction workers stopped work for more than two hours on Wednesday morning demanding a Dh2 (Rs 24) increase in their Dh25 (Rs 301) daily wages. The protestors claimed their Dh500 (Rs 6027) per month salary was not enough to meet their expenses, and even this salary was often delayed. They also complained that the labour camp they were living in was cramped.
